Of course a part of Eric was disappointed that Sookie’s answer wasn’t immediate. If she trusted him like she said she did then what was the hold up? Eric tried to see things her way, but found that he could no more get into the mindset of a twenty-five-year-old human woman than Sookie could a 1,000 year old Viking vampire. They were about as different as two people could get, and yet they made sense together.
With the conversation portion of the evening out of the way, Sookie excused herself to go make something to eat and take Moli outside. For the first time ever there was a possibility Eric might be rejected and it didn’t sit well with him. He considered the options of things to do that could tip the scales in his favor, but decided against all of it. He wanted Sookie to be his without having to manipulate her in any capacity.
For a moment he wondered if that severing spell had taken his balls as well. Eric wasn’t used to feeling pensive or nervous. In fact, he wasn’t used to feeling much of anything at all, at least in an enduring way. The humans at Fangtasia inspired flashes of annoyance, disgust and occasionally amusement or lust, but those emotions were always fleeting. Sookie was the first human in a very long time to hold his attention for more than a couple of hours. It was a truth that was as mystifying as it was potential trouble.
Sookie wouldn’t be like the average bonded. Developing feelings for her wasn’t part of the plan any more than bonding himself to her was. Eric had been curious, but had assumed it was nothing that couldn’t be explained or satisfied with a few feed and fuck sessions. But of course he had to go and get infatuated with her. And after having tasted all she had to offer, he knew he was screwed.
Eric got out of bed when he heard Sookie and Moli coming back inside. She had put on his t-shirt when she got up to take Moli out, and the sight of her in it pushed every button he had. Sookie didn’t even make it to the couch before Eric got a hold of her. He kissed her hair and lifted her slight weight off the floor.
Her legs wrapped around him and they ended up on the couch with Sookie in Eric’s lap. Her plans for food were momentarily shelved. His kisses were passionate, and left both of them aroused and humming with sexual energy. Sookie rubbed her tongue against his fangs one at a time, and then sliced her tongue on one of them. The taste of her blood reminded Eric there was ‘business’ they needed to attend to, and as much as it killed him to do it he broke off the kiss.
“What’s wrong?” Sookie gasped for air, and held on tightly when Eric suddenly stood up. “Eric, I…”
He walked them into the kitchen and set Sookie down on the island before turning to grab a knife from the butcher block behind them. Sookie gasped, but Eric quickly explained, “It’s so you don’t have to use your teeth.”
With his free hand Eric moved the hair away from Sookie’s neck. He touched her softly, letting his fingertips run along the smooth, warm column of skin. Sookie’s eyes met Eric’s and he said, “I’m going to make a small cut for you. Keep drinking until the wound closes.”
Sookie nodded and watched as Eric sliced his chest. His blood began to ooze from the incision and Sookie leaned forward to lick it away. She looked up into Eric’s eyes as the first drops of his blood worked their way into her, and then she closed her lips around the wound and began to suck. Eric groaned as his blood took root inside her. With their connection restore he felt a burst of serenity he wasn’t expecting. Sookie looked up at him with those big brown eyes of hers, and before he forgot himself, Eric adjusted his position and kissed her neck briefly before sliding his fangs into her.
Sookie moaned and began to suck a little harder at his chest. Eric pulled her to the edge of the counter and could feel the heat coming from between her thighs. Unable to wait a moment longer, he buried himself inside her. Sookie moaned against, and raked her nails over his stomach before reaching around to grab his backside. When the wound on his chest closed she kissed the spot that had been cut, but stayed right where she was.
When Eric pulled away from her neck he lifted her off the counter, and cupped her ass while he thrust into her. Sookie’s arms wrapped around his neck and he honed in on what she was feeling. He picked up on a hint of uneasiness blending in with her lust and gratitude. He decided he wouldn’t take the uneasiness as a personal insult until he had a reason to.
Sookie had taken his blood on purpose, and even though she had chosen to do it, it was still under duress. It wasn’t an idea situation but there was nothing he could do about that. A short time later Sookie reached her climax, and Eric followed behind her. He set her down on the edge of the counter again, and reached for something to clean her up with.
“Can you feel me again?” Sookie asked, while he used a damp paper towel to clean the inside of her thighs.
“I can,” Eric said, barely able to contain his smile.
“You can be happy about this,” Sookie put her hand on his cheek, and her thumb touched the corners of his mouth. Eric’s eyes met hers, and she was smiling at him. “You’re pretty when you smile,” Sookie told him, and he lifted an eyebrow.
“Pretty?” he asked, as if he was mildly insulted by her chosen adjective.
She nodded and said, “I have an idea. I want to do an experiment.”
“Is that right? It wouldn’t happen to have something to do with seeing how many times I can make you scream before sunrise, would it?” he suggested, and watched as Sookie tried to look offended while he blood told him that was an experiment she would enjoy. She opened her mouth to argue but he said, “Remember, Sookie, I can feel when you’re attempting to bullshit me now.”
She closed her mouth, squinted at him and was annoyed for just a moment before she said, “While your proposal sounds like a fun way to spend an evening, that wasn’t what I was thinkin’.”
“By all means, do tell,” Eric braced his hands on the counter on either side of her closed legs.
“I was thinkin’ maybe it would be a good idea if you tried to influence my dreams,” she suggested, much to Eric’s surprise.
“Why would I want to do that?” Eric asked, although he could think of quite a few reasons why he would enjoy doing such a thing.
“Because if you can do it then I’ll know that Bill could, too. Maybe it doesn’t matter in the long run whether or not he could, but it’s something I need to know for myself right now,” Sookie explained. “The dreams I had played a role in how my feelings developed, and…”
“And?” Eric prompted her to continue.
“And I’m tryin’ to figure out if my feelings for him were my own, or if they were put there by someone else. If he could control my dreams, that’s the same as if he glamoured me into feelin’ something for him,” Sookie said, and he didn’t like the frustration and betrayal that he felt running through her.
For Eric it was difficult to understand how Bill’s betrayal didn’t cancel everything out, but he attributed Sookie’s lingering feelings and questions to the fact that she was a human woman. He also supposed it had something to do with her lack of adult relationships with men. Sookie had told him how difficult it was for her to get close to a man because of what she still referred to as her ‘disability,’ and that was part of the reason—at least he assumed- why vampires were so attractive to her. Sookie couldn’t hear their thoughts when she was with them, so it gave her the chance to quite literally let her shields down and be herself.
Eric knew all too well what it was like to wear a mask in front of humans on a daily basis; he had done it for centuries. In that regard Eric wasn’t really that much better off. For as long as he lived, he hadn’t really bothered to put forth much effort into maintaining a relationship other than a familial one until Pam and Godric came along. But dealing with Sookie was something entirely different. He had never had what humans would call a ‘girlfriend.’
This was new territory for him.
“You’re sure this is what you want?” Eric asked, even though there was still a part of him that hesitated to do it.
“Yes, I’m sure,” Sookie said, and her eyes dropped from his.
Eric could feel a hint of anxiety in her blood, and he lifted her chin to look into her eyes again. “What are you thinking, Sookie?”
“I’m thinking about my feelings for you,” she admitted, and he felt a rush of affection. “I keep seein’ these new sides to you that I didn’t know existed, and I like that you’re bein’ so honest with me… even when I don’t want to hear it. I’m tryin’ to move on and let go, but I can’t do it overnight. It’s gonna take some time. I hope you understand that.”
“I’m a patient vampire, Sookie,” Eric assured her, and leaned down to kiss her forehead.
She smiled faintly, and then her stomach rumbled. “Guess I better eat somethin’,” she said, and Eric moved over so she could slide off the counter and make herself something to eat.
