One Shot: No One Like You

What’s this?! A solo project? Pshaw! Except it is. Mostly. I admit that Missy jumped in for a few lines to write some of the Sookie dialogue but I’m slightly co-dependent on her. It’s a blessing and a curse, I tell ya!

If you’re following the Dirty Lemons story Lay Low I feel the need to share that the guy that Eric was based on is no longer working with me and I am so bummed about that. He’s such a nice guy and I miss him quite a bit. Thankfully, he’s turned me on to a few things outside of work so I have no doubt we’ll keep in touch but I’ll miss seeing him every day. Texting just isn’t the same. *le sigh*

Anyway… back to this one shot! So I went on a music downloading spree last week and one of my finds was from the Scorpions MTV Unplugged album. How did I find that? Well it starts with me being awesome. Throw in an eclectic taste in music and there you have it. Plus I’m a sucker for anything acoustic and I like the full rock version of the song. If you aren’t familiar with it, I put it on the page with the one shot so you can listen to it. I strongly advise you to because it’s a fantastic song.

I also advise you to go read Wifey’s newest hit, Repossessed. Do you guys have any idea how blessed I am to get these chapters before they get posted? Likewise, Wifey was instrumental in cheering me up the other day when I was feeling down about Mike’s last day. Stupid feels were getting the better of me. But an awesome hashtag came from our texting and a new theory for her defense was brainstormed for her inevitable arrest for stalking/kidnapping Skarsy.

Judge-Gavel

If the bloody glove defense worked for O.J. it can work for Wifey. Judge Eric in the purple panties said so.

So It Took 9 Chapters…

I could be a terrible person and make you wait until next year to find out what happens next, but I think I’ll have mercy. This is last chapter of Dark Was the Night. I’ll get started on Cold Was the Ground, the companion to this story, and hopefully I’ll have a chapter of that for you in a few days. I have to plot out the way I want it to work out in the end, but I have ideas bouncing around the old bean.

In the meantime, if I don’t get the post again before Mother’s Day, I hope all the mamas out there have a wonderful mother’s day with their loved ones. This year Mama Bear’s birthday lands on Mother’s Day. My crazy sister in Ohio has a birthday on Saturday and my mini-me cousin’s birthday is on Tuesday. Assuming I don’t kill anyone at work tomorrow or Saturday, it’s all gravy.

Sidenote: I also bought the new Zac Brown Band album yesterday and holy shitcakes is it fantastic. For those of you who aren’t familiar, they’re generally filed under country music but don’t dismiss them so quickly. This album has a little bit of everything on it. It lives up to its name, Jekyll & Hyde, that’s for damn sure. If you get a chance, check out a song called Dress Blues. Don’t be surprised if you see a one shot pop up because of it.

Happy reading loverfaces xoxo

Chapter 9: Sated

My New Favorite Thing…

I sipped the Kool-Aid and boy am I glad I did because OMG is this shit fun! Such a simple concept… Although I have to say so far Paul Rudd is the champ to beat. If you haven’t seen the lip sync battle he had with Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show, you are missing out. You can definitely find it on YouTube. Oh hell…

It’s perfection. Really.

But just in case you don’t share my love for my new favorite thing, here’s a little of my old favorite thing.

Chapter 4: Foreboding

Earworm & New Chapter

So as I was chillin’ like a villain at home yesterday (after pulling an employee of the month move by voluntarily going in to work to finish up payroll and make my boss’s life a little easier on what turned out to be a shitbomb of a day there) I ended up catching most of an old episode of Behind the Music on VH1 Classic.

No, not that. The real show. It was a remastered edition of the Hall & Oates episode. If you don’t know who Hall & Oates is, you might be too young to be reading my work. Just saying.

Anyway… as you all know, Wifey loves her pop culture references. You know, like this…

If you can throw the ’80s in with that? Well shit, son. So thanks to VH1 Classic I now have this friggin’ song clouding up my brain matter.

WE’RE ALL GOING TO SUFFER TOGETHER, GODDAMMIT!

Or you can skip the video and go straight to the new chapter.

Chapter 3: Vanished

My Last Days in Florida…

This trip has been so much more than I ever could have imagined it would be. It has been a great break from my mother. I didn’t realize just how much I needed that time away from her. I love my mom, I really do, but being her daughter isn’t without its challenges. If only those challenges were as comical as Wifey’s with her mom. Seriously though, I laugh my ass off every time I get a text with screen captures about this. Hilarious.

That’s not to say that this trip wasn’t without its challenges, because it absolutely was. I have never been a caregiver to a child with ADHD before and it isn’t until recently that it has really been much of a factor, but in the last few weeks it has become obvious that Sassy isn’t like the average 7 year old. Based on everything I heard prior to meeting Scribe’s sister, I was expecting the oldest child (her nickname is seriously Beaners, shortened from Gillybean) to be a complete nightmare but she was actually extremely helpful to me. I didn’t realize how busy she kept Sassy until she was gone. Beaners had to go home at the start of July for a gymnastics competition. Since then, Sassy has tried to put me in Beaners’ place as her playmate but I can’t always take on that role for her. It’s obvious she’s bored and as of lately, she’s been dealing with anxiety about her new school. The ADHD definitely isn’t helping with that at all, so the last few weeks have been a challenge for all of us.

I can’t believe seven weeks have gone by so quickly, but they have. This has been a wonderful experience and I have absolutely enjoyed my time here in Florida. Word is I’m getting in one more beach trip tomorrow.

So I plan on taking some video of the ocean. Hopefully it will motivate me to follow through on some plans that I’m starting to make. As much as I love my mom, this trip has shown me that I’m definitely better off (and much happier) when I’m not living with her. I’ve missed her, but I’m also sad to be going home. I truly love it here.

So because music is essentially my time machine, I put together a playlist on Youtube that will definitely bring me back to this summer. It’s primarily country music with a little Jimmy Buffett thrown in because yeah… you can’t go anywhere in this state without hearing Jimmy Buffett at least once. At least that’s been my experience.

I look forward to getting back to posting chapters of Free for you. I’m sorry you’ve had to wait so long for it. I promise it will be worth your while when I get back.

Smooches to all!
