    • To be honest, I’ve never given it much thought. I’ve seen a few instances of pets having human character names, but it’s not the norm. It doesn’t bother me when I see that. I don’t think I’ve read anything that involves genderbending. I’ve written de-aging, I guess, since I’ve done stories with younger Sookies and Erics. I wouldn’t be opposed to genderbending if I had the right vehicle for it, though.

    • Hmmm… when it comes to porn fics the biggest thing is actually the writing of it. If the writing seems forced or if it’s a lemon just for the sake of throwing in a lemon, it rarely ends up being interesting. I like lemons that feel organic, whether they’re romantic, passionate, dirty or full of kink. When the author knows what they’re talking about and paint a good picture without losing the emotional aspect of a sexual encounter, that’s the kind of lemon I want to read.

    • LOL well I just had to look up what an AU Trope is so I think that right there might answer part of your question. If I’m understanding it correctly, I suppose Scribe and I sort of wrote an AU trope with Once Upon A Time and the use of Fairy since that was a different realm. I’m not sure if that qualifies. I suppose my favorite Alternate History story would have to be The Great Repression by kjwrit. To be honest, I’m not sure I’ve ever read anything that really deals with Tropes. I haven’t messed much with it myself, but then I’m not much for comic books and superheroes so there’s a whole world of things I’m not really that aware of. Looks like it might be time for Meg to broaden her horizons 😉

    • Dear Lord, yes! I’ve gotten teary-eyed at a number of them but I think the first one to break me was Rise By Sin by ChanelAddict. She writes angst like nobody’s business. There’s also a phenomenal one shot by SlackerDee called Stay that was written for the I Write the Songs contest a few years ago. It was based on the song by Sugarland. If you listen to that song and then read her fic, you are guaranteed to be snotsobbing like a boss by the time you’re done. To that end, I would also recommend “Turn Down the Lights” by ChanelAddict. It’s an angsty one shot that stemmed from the Bonnie Raitt song “I Can’t Make You Love Me”. Those two ladies write some of the most powerful angst I’ve ever read and I adore the stuffing out of them for it because it’s always well written and not just angsty for the sake of being angsty.

    • I think that would have to be Let Love In by Terri Botta. It spawned an entire series’ worth of material that I am in love with and have read multiple times since someone first pointed me in the direction of that story. I remember when Hope Is A Thing With Feathers was still in progress and the final chapter was posted. At that point there was a conglomerate of fanfic authors all following each other on twitter and we were all tweeting back and forth constantly. FDM, Zigster, Lubadub, ARedheadThing, Scribe, SeaStarr, MissusT, TVGirl and a few others that I’m not recalling at the moment… the alert hit our inboxes and I swear twitter went silent while all of us dashed off to read the final installment.

Bottom line? If you haven’t read Let Love In, you need to because it’s an SVM staple and a story that I will always recommend to anyone who asks for recommendations.

    • #16. Well, it depends on the character, quite honestly. Obviously there are some more than others that I’m okay with being killed off, but I’m sure that’s true for everyone. There are times when it can be devastating but necessary to kill a character. Then there are others when it’s apparent that an author has killed a character purely out of their personal distaste for that particular. I always wonder what the point was of casting said character in their story if they were just going to kill them off, particularly when that character’s death serves zero purpose in advancing the plot. I always feel like if I’m going to kill off a character, I want it to mean something. I’m not going to spend all this time developing a character just to have their death be pointless. Even when it’s a character I enjoy reading, I can deal with their death as long as it makes sense in the scope of the work. Taking a machete to your cast just for the sake of bloodshed is a quick way to make me stop reading your work.

#17. Honestly, I hate to see Sookie suffer. I feel like she’s already been through so much and even though she’s stronger and I know she can take it, my heart always bleeds a little for her when things don’t go her way. I’m somewhat of a terrible reader because it’s hard to turn off the writer part of my brain when I read things so whenever I see a character suffering I assume that there’s growth that will come from the suffering. A lesson will be learned or there will be some sort of karmic payback at a later date in recompense for their despair. That’s not always the case, but it usually is. This is a fandom that pretty much expects an HEA with the price of admission lol.

To that end, I hate to see Jessica as well. I think Jessica was really the one truly brilliant change that ABalls made to the SVM universe via True Blood. I adore her character and she ended up with a shithead of a maker. Bill has abandoned here, attempted to abandon her, physically abused her and kept her in the dark about his true nature. He’s had his moments of towing the line like a maker should, but there have been far more instances of him failing. She’s a good person and she’s got a big heart. Her struggles to balance the urges and instincts of a vampire with her desire to maintain her humanity is a fascinating thing to watch. The scene when she glamoured Hoyt before he left town? I bawled my eyes out. It was so incredibly sad and yet it was the sweetest gift she could have given him. Then this past season with those fairy girls? Dear God, I felt terrible for her.

Okay, maybe I hate seeing Jessica suffer more than I hate seeing Sookie suffer…

  1. 23 and 26, please.

And… have you and Missy considered publishing the Fire Series? It’s that good. I am totally hooked on the second part and even though I cringe when I read it (because it’s a train wreck in progress) and what I mean by that is that I am so engaged with these characters that I honestly want to shake Sookie and hug her at the same time. Know what I mean?

    • #23 Biggest turn off is when an author doesn’t understand the difference between a dominant/submissive situation and a straight up rape or the difference between rough sex and one of the partners being abused. When one of the partners in the scene isn’t giving consent, that makes it rape. End of story. Those are also stories that I don’t hesitate to report because no. Just no.

#26 There’s a whole bunch of stuff that I’ve read and/or written in fic that I don’t think I would ever actually do. The Playground, for example, I don’t think I could ever engage in a D/s relationship in real life, but it’s fascinating to research and write about.

As for publishing, no, Missy and I haven’t talked about converting the story to original fiction. We probably could do that. Maybe we’ll discuss it while she’s here. She’s flying in, in just over a week so we’ll see. Maybe I’ll put up an FAQ offer so we can do videos while she’s here. I’ll run it by her and see what she thinks.

  2. #8 & can you define fluff please?! Someday I will get around to looking up all of the other fan fic terms (well the ones I haven’t figured out myself). 😉

    • Yes, I do read works in progress. If I know the author isn’t going to update quickly enough for me, I put the story on alert and wait for it to be completed before I start reading so I don’t have to wait for the next chapter to be posted. It’s a hard thing to do, but worth it if I know I’m going to get sucked in by a story only for it to stall.

And fluff is a story that is free of angst and serious conflict. It’s a mostly sweet, romantic story where one’s OTP (one true pairing) gets a happily ever after (HEA). It’s basically a romantic comedy in book form, minus whatever dramatic event that might temporarily make things rocky for your couple. Make sense? I still have to look things up, so don’t feel bad. Just yesterday I had to look up what a ‘trope’ is lol

      • It’s easy to keep my stories straight because I try not to write the same story twice. I want to challenge myself so if I’m bored writing, the readers are bored reading.

My name comes from a song called ‘Head Spin’ by Rise Electric and I was listening to it when I had to pick a username. So that’s how I got my name.

And my cast changes from story to story where Sookie is concerned, although I couldn’t tell you a celebrity comparison for an SVM Eric. I try to use different Sookies for each story because it helps keep the stories straight in my head.

  3. Question for you Miss Meg,

How do you keep all of the stories you read/ write separate in your head? I am currently gorging myself on all things SVM & True Blood. There are so many Eric and Sookies running around in my head it makes MY head spin! (Is that how you came up with that name?!).

Also I have to ask, when you read, does the cast change in your minds eye? Example, if I read a True Blood fiction or an all human fic, Skarsy and Anna are always my leading duo, but if I read a SVM fic my mental Eric is always Alexander Godunov and my Sookie is a close look alike for a curvy blonde that I went to school with. I think it is that way because I had this mental cast before the show started. I have tried to picture Skarsy…. But it always goes back to Godunov. I guess I’m just a weirdo! 😉
